The New York Liberty defeat the Atlanta Dream 78-61 › THE PEACH REVIEW®

The Atlanta Dream suffered a tough defeat on the road falling 78-69 to the Chicago Sky. It was an uphill battle for the Dream as they arrived in the Midwest four players short. Rhyne Howard, Aerial Powers, and Jordin Canada were out with injuries and Laeticia Amihere had an international commitment.

The Dream’s Allisha Gray and Haley Jones put in serious work this afternoon combining for 71 minutes played and 32 points scored. The duo started alongside Maya Caldwell, Nia Coffey, and Tina Charles for the third time this season.

Things had initially started well for the Dream. Gray handed the ladies their first lead of the game in the first quarter, Jones led the team in scoring with six points, and Naz Hillmon and Cheyenne Parker-Tyus combined for seven points off the bench.

The second quarter featured more of the same with the Dream going on a 22-9 run midway through. The Sky would eventually outscore them 20-12 and proved that this game would go the distance.

The Sky’s “Twin Towers”, Angel Reese and Kamilla Cardoso, combined for 21 points and each recorded a double-double (and Reese’s 14th straight). Former Dream player Chennedy Carter led the Sky with 19 points, five assists, five rebounds, and a steal.

We gotta keep figuring out ways to try and win basketball games. I don’t think we did a good job of executing down the stretch.”

Dream Head Coach Tanisha Wright

The Dream fought hard for four quarters, but to Coach Wright’s point, they were unable to finish as strong as they started.
