Los Angeles Sparks announce historic $150M training facility

The 55,000 square foot complex was designed in partnership with global architecture firm Gensler, signaling a seismic shift in how women’s sports franchises approach player development and organizational infrastructure. Transwestern’s Sports & Entertainment Group was the Sparks’ partner on land acquisition and will serve as development manager and owner representative. The interior design, handled by women-run Studio Blitz, will emphasize community-oriented spaces.

Eric Holoman, Managing Partner and Governor of the Los Angeles Sparks, framed the investment as player-centric from conception to completion in the announcement press release. “We’re building a place where Sparks players can be at their best on and off the court,” he said. “From cutting-edge training and recovery spaces to family and community areas, every corner of this facility was designed with them at the center. It reflects our commitment to our team, our fans, and the city of Los Angeles, and sets a new standard for what a professional sports organization can provide for its athletes.”

What sets this facility apart isn’t just its massive cost. It’s the holistic approach to athlete wellness that permeates every design decision. The complex will include an indoor-outdoor player sanctuary, an outdoor spa pool, dedicated nap rooms and flexible wellness spaces for yoga and meditation. They are also building two WNBA regulation courts, a circular locker room, and hydrotherapy suites.

While the Sparks’ price tag may be unique, the move to build a dedicated facility is not. The Las Vegas Aces, Seattle Storm and Phoenix Mercury have already done so. The Indiana Fever recently broke ground on a 108,000 square foot, $78 million facility, with the Chicago Sky hoping to open their 43,000 square foot, $38 million space in April 2026. The Dallas Wings just began construction on their $55 million facility. In perhaps the most similar real estate environment, the New York Liberty spent $80 million on a 75,000 square foot facility.

When asked about the breakdown of cost of the new facility, a Sparks spokesperson told The Next, “The $150M is an all-in investment that covers everything from land and construction to amenities and the technology infrastructure that will make this a best-in-class facility. We approached it with the mindset of building not just a practice facility, but a long-term home for our players and staff. Every project is different, and this reflects the scale, design, and resources we felt were necessary to create something that truly sets a new standard.”

The timing is key, as the Sparks will compete for a record number of free agents in the 2025-2026 offseason.
