Goodman opens the show by asking Holmes, straight-up, if Caitlin Clark is the most talented player she’s seen in her career covering college basketball. “She is certainly the most exciting,” Holmes says. “When I started watching her, it was the pandemic year … not a lot of people were talking about her.” But, as Holmes continues, her talents started to gain notoriety, and eventually, “the whole landscape of women’s college basketball went crazy, in very large part for her.”

Later on, Goodman and Holmes discuss all of the ways Clark impacted Iowa basketball. Holmes discusses the changes she witnessed at Iowa over the past few years, including the increased crowds, the lines before the games, and the surge in energy. “There were people lined up two hours before the game,” Holmes says, reflecting on a game she covered this past season in Lincoln, Nebraska. “People have always supported Iowa women’s basketball, but … this is a whole new level.”

Goodman and Holmes close out the show by asking – where does Clark go from here? “Obviously, she’s making the Indiana Fever a better team,” Holmes says. And as for whether or not she can keep it up, Holmes is feeling optimistic. “This [Olympic] break will be good for her,” Holmes says. “She will get better, it will get more familiar … and it’s crazy that this is her first break in about a year.”
