General manager and executive vice president of the Wings, Curt Miller, took the opportunity to explain his strategy, which guided the Wings through a busy offseason.
“There was a real intent to build a team that is in the prime of their careers, so when you look at free agency and the trades, we filled our roster with a lot of players in that what we call the prime of their careers,” Miller said. “They’re coming into career years, they’re coming off of career years, and building that, and then the synergy with the draft class and the youthful excitement and the new tools of the draft class, just really excited to blend it together. We will be one of the youngest teams in the league, but we believe we’ll be one of the most exciting teams in the league.”

Megdal also shared his own question, answered by Miller and coach Chris Koclanes, about how they will measure their accomplishments at the end of this season with a new coach and GM as well as a vastly different lineup on the court.
“We have exit interviews at the end of every season, and in those exit interviews, if a majority of our players can walk in there and say, ‘I enjoyed that season,’ regardless of wins and losses, ‘This is a place I want to be. These are people I want to be around. I want to be back. Can you please resign me?’ Then we’ll have begun in the right direction of establishing our foundation,” Koclanes said.
