DeWanna Bonner Signs with the Fever » Winsidr

DeWanna Bonner has signed a deal to join the Indiana Fever our Rachel Galligan reports. Bonner has been as consistent as they come over the course of her 15-year WNBA career, recording six All-Star selections along with two WNBA titles and three Sixth Woman of the Year honors. Bonner spent the first 10 years of her career with the Phoenix Mercury before joining the Connecticut Sun in 2020 and remaining there ever since.

With the Sun, Bonner has taken her game up a notch and has not let age impact her game by any means, becoming a consistent offensive threat that has paced Connecticut the last five seasons. In 2024, at the age of 36, Bonner appeared in all 40 games while averaging 15.0 PPG, 6.0 RPG, 2.0 APG, 1.2 SPG, and 0.7 BPG over 31.8 MPG, leading all Sun players in scoring for the second consecutive season. You have to think age will start to play a factor in the load that Bonner is able to carry moving forward, but she has shown no signs of slowing down just yet.

Bonner joins a Fever squad anchored by returning veteran Kelsey Mitchell and rising stars Aliyah Boston and Caitlin Clark. The franchise most recently traded away NaLyssa Smith to the Dallas Wings, signed unrestricted free agent Natasha Howard, and acquired Sophie Cunningham in a three-team deal sending Satou Sabally to the Phoenix Mercury. The Fever now have a roster of notable locker room veterans like Bonner, Mitchell, and Howard who can guide the younger stars through the early parts of their careers. Bonner and Howard are championship players with over a decade of experience in the WNBA’s constantly shifting landscape.

New head coach Stephanie White likely had a hand in luring Bonner to the Fever, and this will do wonders for the team’s contention status. The Indiana Fever just went from a middle of the pack team to a major threat, and White is the perfect igniter to set the organization ablaze.
