Locked On WBB: Why Indiana and Connecticut fought

He starts at Gainbridge Fieldhouse, where the Indiana Fever and Connecticut Sun combined for six technicals and three ejections on Tuesday night. Indiana’s Caitlin Clark, as well as Connecticut’s Aneesah Morrow, Tina Charles, Marina Mabrey, Lindsay Allen and Jacy Sheldon received technicals. Allen, Sheldon, and Indiana’s Sophie Cunningham were later ejected.

“When the officials don’t get control of the ball game, when they allow that stuff to happen, and it’s been happening all season long, all season long. It’s not just this game. It’s been happening all season long. This is what happens, right?” Connecticut coach Stephanie White told reporters following the game.

“You’ve got competitive women who are the best in the world at what they do, right? And when you allow them to play physical, and you allow these things to happen, they’re going to compete, and they’re going to have their teammates’ backs. It’s exactly what you expect right out of fierce competition.”

ESPN’s Alexa Philippou reported Wednesday that Mabrey’s technical was upgraded to a flagrant 2, and Cunningham was issued a fine.

“Coach definitely challenged [the bigs] this year to play a little bit out of our comfort zone, not always just being on the low block, playing out a little bit, being out on the perimeter, stretching the floor out,” Griner told Megdal. “It’s just been really good.”

Make sure you catch the full episode to hear more from Griner and teammates like Jordin Canada and Te-Hina Paopao.
